    A reality of human existence is we cannot see ourselves as clearly as others can. There are many reasons for this, mainly it boils down to how hard it is to look at ourselves honestly, after all we cannot distance ourselves from what we see since it is us. A considerable amount of problems have their beginning in childhood where our sense of who we are and how we fit into the world is forming.  From our earliest moments in infancy we form attachments with our caregivers which influences our view of relationships as safe and accepting or unsafe and unpredictable,  this understanding is thought to influence all future relationships. 

    Issues that stem from childhood are usually the most ingrained and often require the help of a professional to work through.  I have worked for years with individuals with less than ideal childhood experiences and helped them gain greater control over their thoughts, emotions and behaviours while achieving a healthier view of themselves.  Awareness is a key component in achieving psychological wellness as is acceptance. Often through our childhood we have been taught to reject or deny parts of who we are which can manifest in a sense of emptiness and interfere with our ability to bond and connect authentically with others. A healthy connection to ourselves is crucial to have healthy connections with others and without fulfilling relationships we cannot in my opinion achieve wellness. Issues from the past even those out of awareness can be worked through effectively over time, provided a person feels safe and accepted. 

     I integrate a variety a research validated approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), solution focused therapy (SFT) as well as exploring meaning of life events, significant relationships, childhood and family history. My focus is holistic in nature looking at the whole person (mind, body and spirit) in the context of their environment and their lived experience. My therapy is always client driven, you set the goals and the pace and I provide a safe, supportive environment where we can explore your struggles and help you embrace your hopes and dreams.
